Government resumes sugar exports; allows 6 mn tons on quota basis till May 31 – Details

The federal government on Saturday allowed export of 6 million tonnes of sugar on quota foundation until Might 31, based on a meals ministry notification.

As per the notification, the ministry has allotted a uniform export quota of 18.23 per cent of the three years common manufacturing of the sweetener in operational sugar seasons.

Sugar mills can export themselves or by way of exporters or swap with home sale quota of every other mills, it mentioned.

Sugar season runs from October to September.

“So as to forestall uncontrolled export of sugar or with a view to make sure ample availability of sugar for home consumption at an inexpensive value, authorities has determined to permit export of sugar upto an inexpensive restrict with impact from November 1 until Might 31, 2023,” it mentioned.
