Beijing will work with Washington to “correctly resolve” points across the divestiture of the U.S. operations of TikTok, China’s Commerce Ministry stated in a press release Thursday, in accordance with a CNBC translation.

The ministry didn’t present a timeframe or any additional particulars. The remark adopted a high-stakes assembly earlier within the day between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese language President Xi Jinping, the primary in-person gathering of the leaders since Trump took workplace in January.

Trump didn’t point out TikTok in his remarks with reporters following his assembly with Xi. As a substitute, he outlined how the U.S. will roll again some tariffs on Chinese language items, whereas Beijing will postpone its newest uncommon earths restrictions.

ByteDance and TikTok didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

In line with U.S. nationwide safety legislation, Beijing-based ByteDance should promote TikTok’s U.S. operations or successfully be banned within the nation. China has but to approve phrases of a deal that might enable a brand new joint-venture firm to supervise TikTok within the U.S.
