Greater than 4,600 individuals filed their Self Evaluation tax return on Christmas Day, forward of the 31 January deadline.

The determine for festive filers was up on the 4,409 who did the identical in 2024.

In complete, 4,606 tax returns have been submitted on 25 December, with the busiest hour between 13:00 and 13:59 when 359 returns have been obtained.

On Christmas Eve, 22,350 tax returns have been despatched in, with 10,479 on 26 December.

HM Income & Customs (HMRC) mentioned 37,435 individuals filed between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day The determine was 40,072 for a similar interval in 2024.

Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s chief buyer officer, mentioned:

“Hundreds of thousands of consumers have already accomplished their tax returns and may begin 2026 with one much less factor to fret about.

From 6 April 2026, sole merchants and landlords with a turnover above £50,000 will likely be required to make use of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Earnings Tax and submit quarterly summaries of their earnings and bills to HMRC.
