The charges that have to be paid for patents, commerce marks and designs are to extend for the primary time in a number of years.

Topic to parliamentary approval, the Mental Property Workplace (IPO) stated charges will rise by a median of 25% from 1 April 2026.

The IPO’s charges haven’t elevated since 2018 for patents, 2016 for designs and 1998 for commerce marks, however the organisation stated the proposed will increase will permit it “to deal with the 32% rise in inflation since 2016 and future value pressures that can’t be totally offset by way of additional effectivity financial savings or reserves”.

It added that the modifications “will allow the IPO to proceed to spend money on its techniques and supply top quality providers”.

The IPO stated it’ll “publish full steering early subsequent 12 months to assist prospects whose charges could also be due across the time of the deliberate modifications”.

The IPO’s announcement follows information earlier this week that Firms Home can be introducing will increase for incorporating a enterprise and different costs. The price of incorporation will rise from £50 to £100 on 1 February 2026.
