SEC votes to propose new cybersecurity rules

The Securities and Change Fee is voting on Wednesday to suggest new cybersecurity guidelines for public corporations.  

There are two elements to the proposal:

  1. Necessary cybersecurity incident reporting: “Materials” incidents must be reported on an 8-Ok type inside 4 enterprise days of the incident. Whereas the SEC has sought to get corporations to reveal cybersecurity incidents since 2011, the company has described the reporting of incidents as “inconsistent.”
