Japan’s retail sales rise 2.3% Y/Y; industrial production down 7.5% M/M in January

Retail gross sales in Japan rose 2.3% Y/Y in January 2024, slowing from an upwardly revised 2.4% acquire in December and matching the consensus forecast.

Industrial manufacturing declined by 7.5% M/M in January 2024, worse than market forecasts of a 7.3% fall and swinging from a 1.4% development a month earlier.

Housing begins declined by 7.5% Y/Y in January 2024, a lot steeper than a 4.0 p.c fall within the prior month and in contrast with market forecasts of a 7.7% plunge.
