President Vladimir Putin will oversee workouts by Russia’s nuclear forces on Saturday involving the launch of ballistic and cruise missiles, the Interfax information company cited the defence ministry as saying.
The workouts are set to happen at a time of hovering tensions between Russia and the West. A Russian navy buildup close to Ukraine has stoked fears that Moscow could assault its neighbour to the west. Russia denies any such plans.
