49 Indians among 261 foreigners missing after flash flood on Tibet-Nepal border: Officials

Chinese language officers on Sunday stated 261 international nationals, together with 49 Indians, remained unaccounted for after a catastrophic flash flood struck Gyirong Port, one of many essential border crossings between Nepal and Tibet, on August 26.

The 261 foreigners are from 23 nations, Chinese language officers advised a media briefing at Gyirong, state-run Xinhua information company reported.

The media briefing was held after a joint search and cross-checking of knowledge by international affairs, public safety, tradition and tourism, and emergency administration authorities.

These unaccounted for embody 104 individuals from Nepal, 49 from India, 33 from Latvia, 18 from the USA, 15 from Britain, six from Canada, six from Australia, 4 from South Africa, three every from Malaysia, Germany and Russia, two every from Eire, Estonia, France, Netherlands, New Zealand, and one every from Kazakhstan, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain and Hungary, it reported.

Numerous Indian pilgrims had been visiting Tibet to participate within the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after ties between China and India improved.

A number of the Indian pilgrims had been reportedly on the immigration constructing on the Tibet-Nepal border when the flood struck the area, wreaking havoc in Gyirong County in Tibet.

Movies of the large flash flood engulfing the sprawling immigration constructing went viral globally.
